Lalita and her husband own and operate the Better Trade Discount located in the heart of Alemeda. Even though Lalita still offers the cheapest cigarettes one can purchase in town, they are currently undergoing a transformation to become the only Tibetan, Neapolitan, and Hindu clothing store in Alameda. Don&#39 t worry smokers, Lalita will not do away with the cigarettes after the transformation of their store. The transformation is a recent change in their business model since Walgreens opened up shop across the street from them last year.

Imported products from Tibet, Nepal and India
Clothing of all design and sizes for men, women and children some clothing type includes t shirts (long and short sleeves), pants, sweaters, hoodies, etc.
Shoes mainly designed for women
Jewelry
Handbags
Statues of Buddha, Indian gods of different sizes
Signing bowls (from $25 $55)

The product designs and quality you would see are not significantly different from other Tibetan/Indian clothing stores you would expect to see in San Francisco (Haight district) or Berkeley but the pricing is phenomenally low. For example, most of their clothing is somewhere around $10 $20. Lalita says they don&#39 t charge a premium as others do, but just enough to pay the bills and save for their son&#39 s college. My fianc and I ended up buying 4 pieces of clothing, 4 handbags, a little thumb sized Buddha, and a wall d cor for only $145.

Lalita has a glowing personality that emanates across the store. She is so kind and helpful but at the same time she leaves you alone to do the shopping as opposed to snooping behind you to ensure you are not trying to steal something from her, which made the shopping experience extremely pleasurable. She also does not nickel and dime you so the overall purchase felt like it was worth every penny.

We traveled all the way from San Francisco via Bart (got off at the Fruitvale station) and her brother, an Uber driver, even gave us a ride to the store and back to Bart as part of our shopping experience. Not sure if she would do this for everyone. Full disclosure we did know her from before as she worked at the concierge of the apartment building my fianc and I lived in a year ago. Regardless, you can take bus #20 from the Bart station and it is only 6 9 stops away. From Lalita&#39 s personality and service to the unbeatable pricing, it was well worth it.

Overall, we are eager to return as soon as the weather gets warmer again. I would highly encourage anyone interested in this type of clothing or products to at the minimum check out Lalita and her husband&#39 s store at least once to see it for yourself.
